Synopsis :
The love triangle pivots around the Islamic practice of Purdah, which forbids women to show their face to men outside their immediate family. A Nawab (Rehman) catches a brief glimpse of Jamilas (Waheeda Rehman) face and falls in love with her. He however does not know who she is so when at his sisters party, he gets hold of a torn fragment from Jamilas veil he gives it to a maidservant so that she can trace who the girl is. However Jamila had exchanged her veil with that of her friend Bano so the Nawab ends up getting the name and address of the wrong woman. This mistake becomes a tragic irony. For Jamila turns out to be the girl Rehmans mother had chosen for him and whom he had persuaded his friend Aslam to get married to. When Aslam realises that his friend is in love with his wife Jamila, he pretends to tire of her, hoping that she will demand a divorce and so will be free to marry Rehman. When Rehman learns of his Dutts sacrifice he chooses to die for his friend and commits suicide.
