Kusum (Jaya Bhaduri), a school-going girl in a small district town, is very fond of movies, and has a crush on Dharmendra, whose films she will see over and over again. So much so that her Bhabhi (Uma) has caught her cutting school to go to the cinema. Kusum lives with father, elder brother Kishan, and her Bhabhi, and is the spoilt child of the family. Her Bhabhi wishes to have Kusum as a bride for her younger brother Navin. One afternoon, Kusum learns that a unit from Bombay has come to town for shooting and that her favorite Dharmendra is with them. Kusum and her friends go to the location and take Dharmendras autograph. These few moments leave the star-struck girl with dreams of Dharmendras inviting-arms for her. The next day, Kusum leaves for Bombay with her Bhabhi and Navin. In Bombay, they are welcomed by Prof. S. Gupta. Bhabhis Mamaji (Utpal Dutt). Mamaji is a bachelor and more than a match for the younger generation. He learns of Kusums infatuation and decides to avoid an emotional disaster. He gets an introduction to Dharmendra through the goodwill of a common friend, where he tells the star of the problem with Kusum. Somewhat reluctantly, Dharmendra agrees with his plan. Mamaji takes Kusum and Navin to meet the star Dharmendra during a shooting. Here, Kusum sees that the stars require duplicates for the stunts and other realities of the real world. Later, Dharmendra and Mamaji conspire to attack Kusum in disguise, so that Navin, who is not let into the secret, can come to her rescue. Everything happens as desired, but for Mamajis teeth which are shaken by Navins genuine blows. Kusum finally realizes that Navin is the proper man for her on her birthday. All the guests arrive except Navin, who arrives later when Dharmendra persuades him to go to Kusum before it is too late.
