From the ashes of shattered dreams rose a powerful drama of hope, and convictions that had Chhotu Ustad (Amitabh Bachchan) and Raja battling out against the ironic twists of fate single handed. They have yet to wipe out the nightmarish experience during their younger days when unable to suffer tormenting Bhabhi anymore, they had walked out of the house breaking the heart of elder brother Hari (Sanjeev Kumar) who had showered both father's and mother's love on them. Time does strange things to man. Today Chhotu piles a taxi day and night to meet Raja's education expenses. His love for Mary and the enire basti where he lived only strengthened his aims in life. Raja on the other hand was drawn into strange web of ambition. The riches of Manju the girl he loved only served a light of flame of lust in him. He now stayed with his father-in-law and thus shattered the hopes pinned on him by Chhotu. For Raja it was a point of no return-he could face the wrath of Chhotu or return to elder brother Hari. It was at this point that fate played yet another vicious card Chhotu gets involved with a smuggler.
